The cod price has more than doubled in five years, and the outlook for 2020 also looks promising for the fishing fleet. On Thursday the 9th.of January, around 250 people gather in Aalesund to share experiences and knowledge with each other.
This is the fifth year that the Frozen at Sea-Conference (Ombordfryst 2020) is being held in Aalesund. The conference is aimed at the part of the deep-sea fishing fleet that freezes the fish on board the vessels at sea, their customers and suppliers.
- We see that this conference has become the most important arena for many in the fishing industry. The participants get both professional input, but also meets others who work with the same issues, says Ørjan Olsen, project manager for new markets, in the Norwegian Seafood Council.
The seafood industry is a global industry and most of the fish caught by Norwegian fishing vessels is exported to the rest of the world.
- For several years now, the market has gone in the right direction. This in combination with low interest rates, favorable situation for the valuta, and not least good prices for the quality products that the Norwegian fishing fleet delivers. Since 2014, the cod price has more than doubled, and it appears that the willingness to pay will be at a high level, says Finn-Arne Egeness, a seafood industry analyst in Nordea.
The onboard frozen conference is a collaboration between the Norwegian Seafood Council, The Norwegian Fishing vessels owners associaton (Fiskebåt) and the bank Nordea. This year, there are around 250 people registered for the conference, which has been held quarterly since 2016.
